Hel89B protein is detected in unfertilized eggs and in early embryos where it expressed everywhere but the pole cells. In later stages, the protein becomes highly localized to the ventral nerve cord and brain. Within the ventral nerve cord it is preferentially found in the longitudinal connectives rather than in the commissures.
