The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

ind is expressed at embryonic stages 5-10 in a columnar arrangement of neurectodermal and neuroblast cells in the intermediate column of the CNS that is continuous and spand two to three cells wide. During stage 10, expression fades in the anterior portion of each segment in the neuroblasts and neurectoderm until it is only present in a few cells in the posterior-most section of each segment.
Expression in procephalic neuroblasts stage 9-11: tritocerebrum - d1-3; deuterocerebrum - d1; protocerebrum - cd7, cd13, pd6, pd13
ind transcript is expressed in intermediate column neurectoderm and neuroblasts. The transcript is first detected in cellular blastoderm embryos in two parallel lateral columns 5 cells wide. During gastrulation, expression narrows to columns only 2 cells wide; the columns are just dorsal to vnd expressing cells, and will become the intermediate column of neurectoderm. At late stage 8, expression is detected in the intermediate column neurectoderm, and in stage 1 neuroblasts derived from the intermediate column. By stage 9, ind is no longer detected in the neurectoderm, but is found in all intermediate column neuroblasts. By stage 11, expression is detected only in one intermediate column neuroblast, NB6-2. No expression is detected after stage 11 of embryogenesis.
ind protein and transcript expression are similar, but ind protein persists longer than the transcript. ind protein is detected in intermediate column neurectoderm and neuroblasts. ind protein expressing cells are adjacent to vnd protein expressing cells. ind protein is still detected at stage 13 in intermediate column neuroblasts.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
RNAi generated by PCR using primers directed to this gene causes a cell growth and viability phenotype when assayed in Kc167 and S2R+ cells.

Annotation CG11551 was eliminated in release 3 of the genome annotation, October 2002.
ind is essential for the development of the intermediate column of neuroblasts in the embryonic central nervous system.
