Gene model reviewed during 5.51
There is only one protein coding transcript and one polypeptide associated with this gene
Component of the mitochondrial ribosome small subunit (28S) which comprises a 12S rRNA and about 30 distinct proteins.

In early embryos bonsai transcript is detected throughout the organism suggesting maternal deposition. At the end of germband extension bonsai is expressed in the anterior and poster midgut primordia and as development proceeds expression occurs in regions corresponding to the midgut constrictions. Expression is also detected in the larval midgut.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

Identification: One of a collection of genes identified with defective larval growth that extend larval life.
