JhI-21 is faintly expressed in the cell bodies most neurons, however strong expression is seen in the cell bodies and neuromuscular junctions of Scer\GAL4RapGAP1-OK6 and Scer\GAL4VGlut-OK371 expressing glutamatergic motor neurons. Expression is developmental stage dependent in the motor neurons; cell body expression is strongest during the early third instar larval stage while neuromuscular junction expression appears only at the third instar larval stage. Expression overlaps with that of Scer\GAL4JhI-21.PZ in the motor neurons and part of the brain.
