Additional Descriptive Data

Tsp expression is observed in early blastoderm embryos. It is next observed at stage 11 in the trunk mesoderm primordium forming a ring like structure around the invaginating midgut and at the segment borders starting from the ventral region. From stage 13, strong expression is observed in the epidermis at segment borders excluding the region that covering ventral nerve cord. In addition, Tsp is transiently expressed in the primordium of the proventriculus. At stage 14 strong Tsp expression is observed in the developing tendon cells at the segment border and in the developing tendon cells of the lateral transverse muscles. Furthermore, Tsp is strongly expressed in the tendon cells of the pharyngeal muscles. From early stage 16 onward, Tsp expression persists in all tendon cells after muscle attachment including the ventral tendon cells covering the VNC. At late stage 16, Tsp expression is refined to the tendon cells that contact muscles.

At stage 12-13, prior to the formation of muscle-tendon junctions, Tsp protein is detected as scattered dots around the sr-expressing tendon cells. At stage 16, following the establishment of the myotendinous junction, Tsp becomes highly concentrated at the muscle-tendon junction sites.
