Gene Snapshot
CAP (CAP) encodes a protein that localizes to focal adhesions and associates with proteins that regulate cytoskeletal organization, including the product of Vinc. It regulates the assembly and function of two actin-rich structures: the larval muscle attachment site, and the fly chordotonal organs in the larval body wall and in the adult Johnston's organ. Additional Descriptive Data
CAP protein is found in stage 16 embryos predominantly in chordotonal organs, somatic muscle, dorsal vessel and the gut. It is present in scolopale cells and muscle attachment sites of longitudinal muscles but is missing from lateral transverse muscles. In third instar larvae it is found mainly in scolopale cells and weakly in cap cells and is also at muscle attachment sites. Isoform-specific expression of CAP protein is observed.
