maf-S expression is ubiquitous in embryos at all stages, with enrichment in specific spatiotemporal areas. At embryonic stage 8, transcript levels are slightly higher in the mesoderm and the cephalic furrow than in the rest of the embryo. Starting at embryonic stage 11, expression is slightly enriched in the anterior and posterior midgut, in the central nervous system, and in the At stage 13, expression is slightly higher in the midgut, central nervous system, in the involuting intercalary segment that gives rise to the ventral pharynx.
