Other Information Discoverer Etymology One of a number of genes isolated from a cDNA library made from third instar salivary glands, but subsequently found not to be expressed in the salivary glands but instead expressed specifically and abundantly in the midgut (which resulted in contamination of the original cDNA library). This surprising discovery prompted the name "Jonah" for this family of genes, after the Biblical prophet who unexpectedly turned up in the gut.
