Summaries
Gene Group (FlyBase)
CYTOCHROME P450 - CYP2 CLAN -
Cytochrome P450, or CYP genes, constitute one of the largest families of genes, with representatives in virtually all living organisms. P450 enzymes are heme-thiolate proteins best known for their monooxygenase role, catalyzing the transfer of one atom of molecular oxygen to a substrate and reducing the other to water. The CYP2 clan includes D. melanogaster CYP18 and CYP303-307 family genes. CYP2 members have diverse roles and are widely considered as "environmental response genes" in mammalian species. (Adapted from FBrf0248421.)
Protein Function (UniProtKB)
May be involved in the metabolism of insect hormones and in the breakdown of synthetic insecticides.
(UniProt, Q9VW43)
