For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
McNeil et al., 1995 (FBrf0080242) mention a gene encoding a Receptor Guanylyl Cyclase called 'DrGC-2' that is mapped to 89A but is otherwise uncharacterized. This gene was called 'Gyc89A'/'Guanylyl cyclase at 89A' (FBgn0014856) in FlyBase. A search for molecularly-defined genes that encode Receptor Guanylyl Cyclases reveals two candidates in the 89A region: CG31183 (89A6-89A7) and CG14877 (89A7-89A8). Presumably 'DrGC-2' corresponds to one or both of these genes, and so 'DrGC-2' (and its synonyms) have been added as synonyms to CG31183 and CG14877, and the original Gyc89A record has been deleted.
