dan transcript is undetectable in embryos through the syncytial blastoderm stage, suggesting that it is not maternally supplied. In stage 5 embryos dan transcript is expressed uniformly, except in the terminal regions, and in the ventral part of the embryo corresponding to the mesoderm anlage. Expression becomes ventralized at stage 8, concentrating in the ventral neurectoderm and decreasing in the lateral ectoderm. Expression is confined to the ventral nerve cord from embryonic stage 11-15.
Expression of the dan and danr transcripts in imaginal discs is restricted to the eye and antennal discs. Expression is strong anterior to the morphogenetic furrow with weaker expression posterior to the furrow. Strong signal is also observed in a ring corresponding to the region of the third antennal segment and in the central region of the antennal primordia. This expression pattern persists in early pupae.

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
