"7-11HD" corresponds to "desat2". The chromosomal polymorphism responsible for the "Low" cuticular hydrocarbon (CH) type (a low ratio of 5,9 heptacosadiene/7,11 heptacosadiene) is a 16bp deletion about 150bp upstream of the "desat2" gene. Flies with the "High" CH type - a high ratio of 5,9 heptacosadiene/7,11 heptacosadiene have the ancestral wild-type (inserted) sequence at this location. The "Low" CH type probably corresponds to a loss of function in "desat2".
"7-11HD" may correspond to "desat1" or "desat2".
