The gene telomere fusion is referred to in FlyBase by the symbol Dmel\tefu (CG6535, FBgn0045035). It is a protein_coding_gene from Drosophila melanogaster. Based on sequence similarity, it is predicted to have molecular function: protein kinase activity. There is experimental evidence that it is involved in the biological process: G2 DNA damage checkpoint; meiotic DNA double-strand break processing; telomere maintenance; photoreceptor cell maintenance; mitotic G2 DNA damage checkpoint; mitotic cell cycle checkpoint; chromosome organization; chromatin silencing at telomere; telomere capping; karyosome formation. 28 alleles are reported. The phenotypes of these alleles are annotated with: eye disc; eye; wing disc; chromosome, telomeric region; interommatidial bristle; macrochaeta; condensed chromosome; wing; ommatidium; rhabdomere of eye photoreceptor cell. It has one annotated transcript and one annotated polypeptide. Protein features are: ATM/Tel1; PIK-related kinase; PIK-related kinase, FATC; Phosphatidylinositol 3-/4-kinase, catalytic domain; Phosphatidylinositol 3/4-kinase, conserved site; Protein kinase-like domain. Summary of modENCODE Temporal Expression Profile: Temporal profile ranges from a peak of moderate expression to a trough of very low expression. Peak expression observed within 00-06 hour embryonic stages, during late larval stages, in adult female stages. Summary of FlyAtlas Anatomical Expression Data: Expression at moderate levels in the following post-embryonic organs or tissues: larval central nervous system, larval/adult salivary gland, adult male accessory gland. Comments on Affy2 ProbeSet: ProbeSet 1630729_at completely aligns to an exonic region of the only FlyBase-annotated transcript isoform of tefu. Gene sequence location is 3R:11057934..11067958.

comment=Nucleotide change: GT changed to AT in the splice donor, leading to retention of intron 21. Translation continues past the peptide sequence SLQQAEDFCQ into the retained intron, adding the novel MMVSWEFCDVLF sequence before reaching a premature stop codon. One of two nucleotide changes observed in mutant. The difference between the annotated and the reported site of the amino acid change is due to the authors description of a 2429 residue protein, compared to the currently annotated 2767 residue polypeptide. Position of mutation on reference sequence inferred by FlyBase curator. na_change=G11060956A

The difference between the annotated and the reported site of the amino acid change is due to the authors description of a 2429 residue protein, compared to the currently annotated 2767 residue polypeptide. This section lists
cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent
of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs
of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes.
Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs
to the gene model.
S2 cells are treated with dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene to assess effect on proteolysis of dup and geminin genes.
