Additional comments
The CG31332 and CG31352 annotations represent two very similar neighbouring genes located on 3R, which are related to the C. elegans unc-115 gene. These two genes were erroneously annotated as non-overlapping transcripts of a single "CG9489" annotation in release 2 of the genome annotation, but this was subsequently corrected in release 3.2 of the genome annotation so that each gene is represented by a separate annotation (CG31332 and CG31352).
FBrf0201664 uses the symbol "Dunc-115" to refer to the CG31352 annotation. However, the "unc-115" symbol was previously used in FlyBase to refer to the similar CG31332 annotation (the confusion in FlyBase probably arose due to the complex annotation history of these two very similar genes).
To avoid confusion, the genes corresponding to both the CG31332 and CG31352 annotations have been renamed in FlyBase.
The gene represented by CG31352 has been renamed to "Unc-115a" and the gene represented by CG31332 has been renamed to "Unc-115b" to reflect that both genes show similarity to the C. elegans unc-115 gene.
