The gene symbol "eap" has been reverted to "CG32099" as it was originally named based on a 2003 personal communication (FBrf0157338) and hasn't been named/characterized in a peer-reviewed publication since. Reverting to the CG number will also reduce confusion with the "Eap" (CG3594) gene symbol, from which it differed only by case.
Source for merge of eap BcDNA:GH12334 was a shared cDNA ( date:030728 ).
The gene was named "eap: ebony activating protein" after its function because it converts apo-Ebony to holo-Ebony.
