Additional Descriptive Data
Hmx transcript is first expressed at cellular blastoderm, in bilateral dorsolateral patches in the procephalic neurogenic region, located at about 75% egg length. At embryonic stage 8, a second pair of patches of expression appear 3-4 cell lengths posterior to the first pair, just anterior to the cephalic furrow. At embryonic stage 9, a third pair of patches of expression, anterior to the first pair, appears as the central and posterior patches become fragmented. At embryonic stage 10, Hmx-expressing neuroblasts develop in the Hmx-expressing areas of the procephalic neurogenic region. At stages 13-14, expression is localized to three regions of the protocerebrum primordium. At late stages Hmx is expressed in the embryonic optic lobes. Expression is also observed from stage 11 in a single cluster of neurogenic precursors in each hemisegment of the ventral neurogenic region. By stage 15, Hmx is expressed in two clusters per hemisegment of the ventral nerve cord.
