Identification: as a suppressor of H mediated cell death induction.
Reduction in levels of pzg gene activity during larval development results in developmental delays and reduction of tissue size due to impaired cell cycle progression and induction of cell death.
Null mutants of Z4 are embryonic lethal and hypomorphic mutants die at late larval/early pupal stages. Z4 mutants have a dosage-sensitive effect on position-effect variegation with a haplo-suppressor and triplo-enhancer phenotype.
