rempA mutant phenotypes are consistent with it being required for normal retrograde intraflagellar transport in developing chordotonal cilia. rempA is also required for the development of the ciliary dilation in the cilia of the chordotonal organs.
Mutation causes a reduction in both the mechanoreceptor potential (MRP) amplitude and the transepithelial potential (TEP) value. Mutations cause adult inviability due to severe uncoordination.
