Gene Snapshot
Reduced mechanoreceptor potential A is the IFT140 subunit of the IFT-A subcomplex. As such, it is a component of the conserved intraflagellar transport (IFT) mechanism and is needed to extend cilia above the cell surface. [Date last reviewed: 2017-01-12]

INTRAFLAGELLAR TRANSPORT SUBCOMPLEX-A -
Intraflagella Transport (IFT) complex proteins are evolutionary related to coat protein complexes. The IFT-A subcomplex mediates retrograde transport of large proteins/complexes within the intraflagella transport system. It interacts with the BBSome and IFT-B complexes. (Adapted from PMID:22118932, PMID:19575670 and FBrf0223369).

            Other Comments
rempA mutant phenotypes are consistent with it being required for normal retrograde intraflagellar transport in developing chordotonal cilia. rempA is also required for the development of the ciliary dilation in the cilia of the chordotonal organs.
Mutation causes a reduction in both the mechanoreceptor potential (MRP) amplitude and the transepithelial potential (TEP) value. Mutations cause adult inviability due to severe uncoordination.
