    Etymology

The gene is named "Alhambra" based on the red eye colour phenotype seen in wph-p.lac+3/w1118 ; Alh1/+ flies (the Alhambra is a beautiful Moorish palace in Granada, Spain. Its name comes from the Arabic word "hamra", which means red).
