Gene Group (FlyBase)
CYTOPLASMIC LARGE RIBOSOMAL PROTEINS -
Cytoplasmic ribosomes are found on the endoplasmic reticulum and in the cytoplasm. They translate all mRNAs produced from nuclear genes and perform the majority of cellular protein synthesis. Ribosomes are formed by two ribonucleoprotein subunits, large and small. The principle function of the large subunit is to bind tRNA during the synthesis of polypeptides. (Adapted from FBrf0205398).
Phenotypic Description (Red Book; Lindsley and Zimm 1992)
*M(2)25C
Small-bristled Minute with heavy body. Classification good. Viability and fertility fairly good. RK2.

"RpL37a" maps very near to "M(2)25C".

      Source for merge of RpL37a BcDNA:RH41593 was TrEMBL update ( date:020807 ).

      Source for merge of RpL37a BcDNA:RE23595 was TrEMBL update ( date:020807 ).

      Other Comments

      Haploinsufficient locus.

RNAi screen using dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene results in aberrantly short, monopolar spindles when assayed in S2 cells. This phenotype can be observed when the screen is performed with or without Cdc27 dsRNA.

      Minute gene.

Deletions removing RpL37A but no other cytoplasmic ribosomal protein-encoding genes show Minute phenotypes. The interval between flanking non-Minute deletions contains only RpL37A.

      "2-15.03" was stated as revision.

One of a class of genes (see MIN record) that when present in one, rather than two, copies, produce a characteristic phenotype consisting of short slender bristles and delayed development.
