Conventional Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) are proline-directed protein serine/threonine kinases that are components of the MAPK signaling cascade.         The p38c gene may have been derived from the p38a gene, but as the region of similarity between the two genes does not span an exon-exon junction in the parental gene, retroposition cannot necessarily be inferred.
        It's clear from the text of the sole reference associated with 'Mpk2B' (FBrf0092159, an ADRC abstract) that it is identical to 'p38c'.
