PubMed Abstract The analysis of MDG1 transcription in Drosophila melanogaster cells discovered transcription termination sites in the leader region of the element. These termination sites are localized 1 kb downstream the transcription initiation site and contain long oligo (dA) blocks. The transcription termination is regulated in different cell types. The transient expression of the deletion mutants has shown that a small ORF in the MDG leader region can be translated. This points on possible transcription reinitiation during the process of reading the main ORF MDG1.
