Dear Steven, I discussed the nomenclature with my colleagues and they find that at least one hyphen is necessary. So we can call the receptor genes: PK1-R (CG9918) PK2-R1/Pyrokinin 2 receptor 1 (CG8784) PK2-R2/Pyrokinin 2 receptor 2 (CG8795). Thank you very much for your help! Best regards, Cornelis Prof. Dr. Cornelis (Cok) J. P. Grimmelikhuijzen Department of Biology University of Copenhagen -- Dear Cornelis J.P. Grimmelikhuijzen, We have noticed that CG8784 (FBgn0038140) and CG8795 (FBgn0038139) are characterized but unnamed in FlyBase. You characterized these two pyrokinin-2 receptor-encoding genes in your 2003 BBRC paper (FBrf0161968), but FlyBase didn't assign them explicit symbols/names at the time. We already have a symbol & name assigned to the gene encoding the pyrokinin-1 receptor, based on your 2005 BBRC paper (FBrf0187157): Pk1r Pyrokinin 1 receptor (FBgn0038201) So, can you suggest appropriate symbols and names for CG8784 and CG8795? It would be useful to ensure all three gene symbols have the same format in the end. How about: Pk2r1 Pyrokinin 2 receptor 1 (for CG8784) Pk2r2 Pyrokinin 2 receptor 2 (for CG8795) Please let me know if these symbols/names are OK, or if you have an alternative suggestion. Thanks, and best wishes, Steven Marygold FlyBase
