Dmir\TRAM element is inserted several times within the Lcp cluster on the neo-Y chromosome of D.miranda. The former homologue, the X2 chromosome, is devoid of Dmir\TRAM sites. The enriched occurrence of Dmir\TRAM elements at the evolving neo-Y chromosome adds evidence to the view that Y chromosome degeneration is driven by the accumulation of transposable elements. The element has been cloned and its structure and organisation determined.
Present on the neo-Y chromosome of D.miranda.
