Ecol\lacZbi-Pol-1 is expressed in a stream of cells migrating from the proximal to the distal part of the inner proliferation zone in the larval optic anlage.

Ecol\lacZbi-Pol-1 is expressed in a wide band centered on the A/P boundary in the wing pouch and wing hinge primorium areas of the wing disc.

Expression of theP-element Ecol\lacZ insertion line reflected by X-gal staining, closely mirrorsexpression of bi transcripts. In the stage 8 embryo, expression is seenanterior to the cephalic furrow in lateral clusters. In stage 12 embryos,expression in the optic lobe and the antennal segment is high and persiststhrough embryogenesis. From stage 12 through stage 17 expression is detected ina segmentally repeated pattern in the ventral nervous system. Ecol\lacZ expressionis also detected during larval development in the brain and the imaginal discs.Expression is high in the dorsal and ventral marginal regions of theeye-antennnal disc, in a broad stripe in the wing pouch area of the wing disc,and along the dorsal anterior-posterior boundary in the leg disc. Expression isalso high in the optic lobe of the larval brain.

In third instar wing disc, expressed in the wing pouch and in the presumptive hinge region. Expression does not occur throughout the wing pouch; symmetrical relative the the D-V boundary and the A-P boundary.

In embryo, "patterned" expression.
