hide Detailed Description
Statement
Reference
At 18[o]C, homozygous eclose and appear morphologically normal. Homozygotes show semi-lethality at 25[o], with most homozygotes dying fully formed in their pupal cases. Adult escapers often have obvious morphological defects; the eyes are kidney-shaped and rough, the wings are notched and the wing hair patterns may suggest planar cell polarity defects. Duplications of the anterior scutellar bristles are also seen. The ommatidia near the morphogenetic furrow are abnormally mature in mutant larval eye discs, and the rows of developing ommatidia are V-shaped, rather than straight as in wild-type discs. In adult flies, the eyes are rough along the equator, and the ommatidia in this region have a wide variety of defects, including ommatidia with too many or too few photoreceptors, irregular polarity and ommatidial fusions. Away from the equator, the ommatidia are normal.
