hide Detailed Description
Statement
Reference
Lsd-2[KG00149] mutants have no ectopic lipid storage in salivary glands.
Fat body lipid storage in Seipin[null]; Lsd-2[KG00149] animals is similar to Seipin[null] single mutants.
The net plus-end (phase II) transport of lipid droplets along microtubules is disrupted in Lsd-2KG00149 embryos; lipid droplets are distributed throughout the periphery in the mutants during this phase, while droplets are localized basally in wild-type embryos. Quantification of droplet motion shows that both plus-end and minus-end periods of uninterrupted motion are slightly decreased in relation to the wild type in phase II, but the decrease in plus-end motion is larger, resulting in abolishment of net transport. For both directions, motion is slightly slower in the mutants than in wild-type embryos. The parameters of droplet motion in phase II and phase III (net minus-end transport) are essentially the same in Lsd-2KG00149 embryos. Lsd-2KG00149/+ embryos only show this phenotype when the Lsd-2KG00149 allele is inherited from the mother. Embryonic development does not appear to be affected in Lsd-2KG00149 mutants and the distribution of other organelles is not affected. Many embryos hatch and give rise to fertile adults.
Mutants are lean, containing significantly lower levels of triacylglycerols (37.2% of controls).
Lsd-21/Lsd-2KG00149 nurse cells show an abnormal pattern of neutral lipid accumulation.
