hide Detailed Description
Statement
Reference
One copy of Sk2[KG05894] fails to suppress the maternal effect lethality caused by expression of wntD[Scer\UAS.P\T.cEa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act.PU].
Sk2[KG05894] flies appear morphologically normal at room temperature.
Mutant animals show a marked increase in sphingolipid content at all stages of the life cycle compared to wild-type animals. Homozygotes show no reduction in viability at any stage of the life cycle and adult longevity is normal. Adults show impaired flight ability (20% reduction in flight performance), although the morphology and patterning of the indirect flight muscles appears normal. Homozygous females produce only 43% of the number of eggs that wild-type females produce. The ovaries do not show morphological defects and no abnormal masses other than an increase in fatty tissue that normally surrounds the gonads. The ovaries are consistently enlarged however, due to an increase in the number of mature eggs.
