Expression of Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[43B] results in polytene chromosome disassembly in the salivary gland nuclei of larvae. Expression of Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[hs.PB] in third instar larvae using a heat shock of 24 hours at 35[o]C results in polytene chromosome disassembly, with the extent of dispersal being directly related to the time after Cap-H2 induction that the salivary glands are examined. Significant disassembly of the polytene chromosomes is seen after 6 hours of Cap-H2 induction. Expression of Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[hs.PB] does not result in DNA breaks detectable with TUNEL in the salivary glands.
Expression of Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[sd-SG29.1] partially suppresses the Ubx[1:Cbx-1]/+ wing phenotype.
Expression of Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[hs.PB] results in a drastic separation of salivary gland chromosomal components.
The polytene chromosome disassembly that is seen in larval salivary glands expressing Cap-H2[EY09979] under the control of Scer\GAL4[hs.PB] is suppressed by Cap-D3[EY00456]/Df(2L)Exel7023.
