hide Detailed Description
Statement
Reference
Flies homozygous for DCX-EMAP[f02655] or trans-heterozygous with either Df(3L)BSC441 or Df(3L)ED217 show mild uncoordination. Phenotypes include unstable walk, spread wing position, extensive grooming, inability to initiate stable flight, and sluggishness. The mechanically evoked compound action potentials that are recorded from the ears of control flies are absent in homozygous mutants. Homozygotes lack both auditory transducer gating and mechanical feedback amplification and thus fail to generate mechanically evoked electrical signals in the antennal nerve. Electron-dense materials in the tubular body of campaniform receptors of the haltere and the ciliary dilation of chordotonal receptors of Johnston\'s organ are absent in homozygotes. Despite these ultrastructural alterations, the general shape and size of the tubular body and the ciliary dilation are normal.
