Tag:GST corresponds to the 26kDa Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) from Schistosoma japonicum (UniProtKB:P08515). It can be used as an affinity tag for one-step purification of a tagged protein of interest or its complexes. Proteins of interest tagged with Tag:GST are soluble in aqueous solution in the majority of cases and can be purified under non-denaturing conditions by affinity chromatography on immobilized glutathione (adapted from PMID:3047011, see also PMID:20978970, PMID:26096507). Tag:GST can also be used as an epitope tag for protein detection. Tag:GST undergoes homodimerization (PMID:7853399, PMID:7538846) and this property can be exploited to study the function and/or manipulate the activity of a protein of interest, by replacing the dimerization domain of that protein with Tag:GST to force dimerization (PMID:8663064, PMID:9005444).
