Sense-antisense transcription of a 370bp fragment of Ilp3 cDNA (driven by two convergent arrays of UAS regulatory sequences) results in double stranded RNA (dsRNA) expression.
Likely due to sequence homology amongst the insulin-like peptides, the P{Sym-UAS-Ilp3} construct show off-target effects; as well as downregulating the levels of Ilp3 expression, it also downregulates the expression of Ilp2 and Ilp5.
