Definition Binding sites are identified by altered reactivity of a complex to a chemical treatment compared to the unbound molecules. Residues in close contact with the binding partner are protected from chemical modification. When these chemicals are administrated to intact cells, the pattern of protection from the probes identifies the location of DNA-protein or protein-protein interactions in vivo.[ PubMed:8238889 ]
