# FlyBase Releases FTP directory

This directory contains bulk data files for all versioned FlyBase releases.


## Release Names 

FlyBase releases use the following form.


FB<YEAR>_<RELNUM>


 * <YEAR> is the year of the release
 * <RELNUM> is a padded integer representing the release number for the year.

e.g.

FB2019_01, FB2019_02, FB2019_03

## current and dmel_REFSEQ

The `current` symlink in this directory always points to the current FlyBase
release directory.  The `dmel_REFSEQ` symlink points to the FlyBase release that was used
for the most recent GenBank/RefSeq submission.

## Species Emeriti

Starting with FB2018_06, FlyBase no longer reflects NCBI annotation or
genome assembly updates for the following species:

 * D. erecta
 * D. grimshawi
 * D. mojavensis
 * D. persimilis
 * D. sechellia
 * D. willistoni
 * D. yakuba.

Starting in FB2020_03, the same applies to the following species:

 * D. simulans
 * D. ananassae
 * D. pseudoobscura
 * D. virilis
