35B2-3 breakpoint at -103 to -106.5 bp in the molecular map of the wild-type noc-Adh region (McGill et al., 1988) (coordinate 0 on EcoR1 restriction site 1321 bp to the left of the start of transcription of the larval Adh transcript, '+' values to the right, '-' values to the left).

Comments on Cytology

Since osp is very near the 2L breakpoint of this translocation the Mpe phenotype may be due to a dominant osp allele.

    Chromosome acts as a weak trans-suppressor of a physical interaction between tandemly duplicated copies of w+, an interaction that is required for the suppression of genes by z1.

    Associated with dominant Mpe phenotype and recessive osp allele. Also shows a dominant leg phenotype (thickening of the tibial-tarsal joint of the metathoracic leg). Phenotypes of leg and outstretched-wing associated with 2P3D element of the translocation. homozygous lethal Heterozygotes reduced in viability (Hughes and Shelton, 1980) Heterozygotes reduced in fertility (Hughes and Shelton, 1980) T(2;3)Mpe heterozygous with a deletion of the entire noc region is noc+ (McGill et al., 1988).
