Homozygotes exhibit mitotic and midgut defects. Females with germline clones lay morphologically normal eggs for 5-6 days then stop laying. Older females exhibit discontinuity in the production of late stage egg chambers and nurse cell degeneration. Among the embryos produced from cnn- oocytes three classes can be defined: early arrest of nuclear division, completion of early nuclear division before undergoing necrosis and some hatch and develop to viable adults.
Homozygotes develop up to the end of embryogenesis but fail to hatch. Nervous system and gut show defects with respect to expression of molecular markers. The second midgut constriction fails to form. The finger-like projections of the gastric caeca also fail to extend.
