sxc1 is lethal in combination with sxcK872M.

sxc1/sxc6 transheterozygotes die at pharate adult stage.

Expressing sxcScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU partially rescues the lethality of sxc1/sxc6 transheterozygotes and although the majority of the surviving adults have normal wings, a significant proportion has wings with an ectopic vein; these surviving females have viable progeny.

Expressing either sxcH537A.Scer\UAS or sxcH596F.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU partially rescues the lethality of sxc1/sxc6 transheterozygotes but the majority of the surviving adults has wing defects which consist mostly of ectopic veins; the rest have normal wing morphology; these surviving females have viable progeny.

Expressing sxcD955A.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU partially rescue the lethality of sxc1/sxc6 transheterozygotes but the majority of surviving adults show wing defects, including ectopic veins, notches and blistering; the progeny of sxcD955A.Scer\UAS-rescued sxc1/sxc6 females dies before reaching second larval instar (crossed with either sxcD955A.Scer\UAS-rescued sxc1/sxc6 males) or adulthood (crossed with wild-type males) due to maternal effect.

Embryos derived from sxc1/sxc02637 females expressing sxcScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 show a dramatic reduction in the hatching rate compared to controls at 34[o]C.

Flies transheterozygous for sxc1 and sxc6 or sxc7 develop into pharate adults showing a typical sxc mutant phenotype.

sxc2/sxc1 flies are viable and fertile, but exhibit wing abnormalities suggestive of wing-to-haltere transformations.

Mutation does not affect the level of w expression in ph-plac+3 flies.

Homozygous adults exhibit homeotic transformation of antenna to first leg, of second and third legs to first leg, of wing to haltere and of abdominal segments A1, A4 and A5 to A2, A5 and A6, respectively. Homozygotes derived from homozygous female germ line exhibit transformation of larval thoracic and abdominal segments toward A8.
