Construct: The EcR-A isoform is expressed under the control of a heat shock promoter.
Animals expressing EcRA.hs have defects in the mushroom body α/β lobes: the lobes may appear slim or underdeveloped, or the β lobes may be fused.
Expression of EcRA.hs using heat shock results in germaria that are filled with supernumerary germline cells containing a single spectrosome in females. After 7 days of heat shock treatment, 67% of germaria contain dumbbell-shaped fusomes.
Heat induced expression of EcRA.hs (using a single heat shock for 45 minutes at 37oC) has little effect on viability with only 15-25% of the animals dying when the heat shock is administered at the time of the ecdysone peak.
