For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.
Wild type function of aly, can, mia and sa is required for cell-cycle progression through the G2/M transition of meiosis I in males and for onset of spermatid differentiation. The phenotype of these meiotic arrest mutants is strikingly similar to the histopathological features of meiosis I maturation arrest infertility in human males, suggesting that the control point may be conserved from flies to man.
mia is required for both the progression of the male meiotic cell cycle and the onset of postmeiotic differentiation.
