The 3.5 kb Nrk transcript is expressed at 4-22 hours of embryogenesis, with the highest embryonic expression at 4-10 hours. Expression continues to be detected in larvae, reaches its highest levels in pupae and is low in adult flies. Using in situ hybridization, embryonic expression is first detected at stage 10, in ventral regions of the germ band. Expression continues to be detected in the developing nervous system through the rest of embryonic development.
