bHLH-zipper transcription factor - Max-interacting transcriptional repressor - associates with the Sin3 corepressor - Larval growth and endoreplication are coupled processes that, although linked to cell cycle control mechanisms, are regulated by dMyc and dMnt

Mnt protein is detected in the epidermis in embryos from stage 11 as well as in the cental and peripheral nervous systems. It is also detected in the salivary gland primordium. In third instar larvare, Mnt protein is detected predominantly in differentiated cells posterior to the morphogenetic furrow but also in the furrow. It is also detected in actively dividing peripodial membrane cells of the wing and eye-antennal imaginal discs as well as in salivary gland and fat body.

Please Note FlyBase no longer curates genomic clone accessions so this list may not be complete
Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see GBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

DNA-protein interactions: genome-wide binding profile assayed for Mnt protein in Kc167 cells; see Chromatin_types_NKI collection report. Individual protein-binding experiments listed under "Samples" at GEO_GSE22069 (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/query/acc.cgi?acc=GSE22069).
S2 cells treated with dsRNA generated against this gene show reduced phagocytosis of Candida albicans compared to untreated cells.
S2 cells have been transfected with dsRNA made from templates generated with primers directed against this gene.
Phylogenetic analyses indicate that Mnt is the ortholog of vertebrate MNT.
Identification: Two hybrid screen using Max as bait.
