Gene Summary
Epidermal growth factor receptor pathway substrate clone 15 (Eps-15) encodes a multi-domain adaptor protein involved in endocytosis. It interacts with several other endocytic factors such as those encoded by shi, stnB, Dap160 and AP-2α. It is enriched at sites of endocytosis and is required for normal synaptic bouton development and vesicle endocytosis during high frequency stimulation. Pathway (FlyBase)
Negative Regulators of Notch Signaling Pathway -
The Notch receptor signaling pathway is activated by the binding of the transmembrane receptor Notch (N) to transmembrane ligands, Dl or Ser, presented on adjacent cells. This results in the proteolytic cleavage of N, releasing the intracellular domain (NICD). NICD translocates into the nucleus, interacting with Su(H) and mam to form a transcription complex, which up-regulates transcription of Notch-responsive genes. Negative regulators of the pathway down-regulate the signal from the sending cell or the response in the receiving cell. (Adapted from FBrf0225731 and FBrf0192604).

Model Confidence:
  • Very high (pLDDT > 90)
  • Confident (90 > pLDDT > 70)
  • Low (70 > pLDDT > 50)
  • Very low (pLDDT < 50)

AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.

Expression Summary Ribbons
Colored tiles in ribbon indicate that the Fly Cell Atlas project found the gene expressed in that cell type. Darker colors mean that more cells of that cell type express the gene:
 low
high
Colorless tiles indicate that there is no scRNAseq data for the gene in that cell type.
Colored tiles in ribbon indicate that expression data (RNA and/or protein) has been curated by FlyBase for that anatomical location. Colorless tiles indicate that there is no curated data for that location.
Colored tiles in the ribbon indicate the average RNA expression level of the gene at the indicated stages:
 low

Additional Descriptive Data

Eps-15 is expressed in central brain neuropils. It is uniformly high amongst the different neuropils. In cross sections of the lamina, Eps-15 labelling reveals the outline of photoreceptor R1-R6 terminals, and particularly strong staining was seen at the sites facing the interior of the cartridge. Via immunoelectron microscopy, Eps-15 is seen amongst the vesicle pool in the cytoplasm of the photoreceptors, and often close to the capitate projection (invaginations from surrounding epithelial glial and specialised organelles for the endocytosis of vesicle membrane).
