Definition A malaria that presents as a rare febrile complication of repeated malarial attacks characterized by intravascular haemolysis, haemoglobinuria and kidney failure, resulting from destruction of red blood cells caused by heavy parasitization with Plasmodium falciparum or Plasmodium vivax.
