General Information
Term descending neuron of the anterior ventral brain DNb05 ID (Ontology) FBbt:00047586 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Ipsilateral descending of the DNb group (Namiki et al., 2018), with its cell body anterior to the antennal lobe (Stocker et al., 1990; Matsuo et al., 2016). It branches posterior to the antennal lobe (AL), with one branch entering the AL via the antenno-subesophageal tract and arborizing profusely in glomeruli VA3, DL1/DA3 and VP1-3 (Stocker et al., 1990; Tanaka et al., 2012). As well as the AL, it has postsynapses in the antennal mechanosensory and motor center (AMMC) zone B, the wedge, the LC4 glomerulus of the posterior ventrolateral protocerebrum, the posterior lateral protocerebrum and the superior posterior slope (Matsuo et al., 2016). Presynaptic terminals are found in the vest, AMMC zone E, saddle and posterior gnathal ganglion (Matsuo et al., 2016). It descends on the ipsilateral side of the cervical connective and fasciculates with the ventral lateral tract of the ventral cervical fascicle (Namiki et al., 2018). In the VNC, it innervates the intermediate and lower tectulum, and the T1, T2 and T3 leg neuropils (Namiki et al., 2018). There is one of these cells per hemisphere (Namiki et al., 2018). It is cholinergic (Cheong et al., 2024).[ FlyBase:FBrf0051437 FlyBase:FBrf0219809 FlyBase:FBrf0230862 FlyBase:FBrf0239335 ]
Also Known As "AL-DN2(TI)" ; "AMMC-Di7" ; "antennal lobe descending neuron 2 (TI)" (for all, see Synonyms field below)
Comment Namiki et al. (2018), identify this as being morphologically similar to the antennal mechanosensory and motor center Di7 neuron, described by Matsuo et al. (2016) and the thoracic relay interneuron, described by Stocker et al. (1990). This is confirmed by Sturner et al. (2024) - doi:10.1101/2024.06.04.596633.
