General Information
Term optic lobe amacrine neuron Am1 ID (Ontology) FBbt:00052538 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Amacrine neuron that is intrinsic to the optic lobe and innervates the medulla, lobula and lobula plate (Shinomiya et al., 2019). Its cell body is found next to the lobula plate and its cell body fiber enters the lobula plate from the posterior side (Shinomiya et al., 2019). It branches into columnar fibers that arborize in lobula plate layer 2 (Shinomiya et al., 2019). These fibers bifurcate, projecting via the second optic chiasma to innervate lobula layer 2 and medulla layers 8-9 (Shinomiya et al., 2019). It only innervates the posterior columns of the medulla and some of its fibers terminate and make synapses within the second optic chiasma (Shinomiya et al., 2019).[ FlyBase:FBrf0243899 FlyBase:FBrf0254308 ]
