General Information
Term accessory medulla neuron aMe4 ID (Ontology) FBbt:00053486 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Adult unilateral visual centrifugal neuron that receives input in the posterior lateral protocerebrum (Dorkenwald et al., 2024; Schlegel et al., 2024). In the optic lobe, it has postsynapses in the accessory medulla and medulla layers M6-M7, spanning around 20 columns, and presynapses in around 60 columns of layer M1 (Nern et al., 2025). It is predicted to be cholinergic (Eckstein et al., 2024; Nern et al., 2025). There are 9 of these cells per hemisphere (Nern et al., 2025).[ FlyBase:FBrf0259490 FlyBase:FBrf0260535 FlyBase:FBrf0260546 FlyBase:FBrf0262545 ]
Also Known As "aMe4"
Comment Found in 3 EM datasets and identified at light level by Nern et al. (2025).
