| Definition |
Zone of proliferating neuroblasts of the lateral outer optic anlage that forms in the middle of the third instar stage (Hofbauer and Campos-Ortega, 1990). Neuroblast formation and proliferation begins at the lateral edge, which is a crescent-shape surrounding the Bolwig nerve (Hofbauer and Campos-Ortega, 1990). The zone broadens and moves medially as new neuroblasts form (Hofbauer and Campos-Ortega, 1990). Approximately 6000 neurons are produced in this region, forming the lamina (Hofbauer and Campos-Ortega, 1990).[ FlyBase:FBrf0052913 ] |
