ID (Ontology) |

| Definition |
Large glial cell of the outer optic chiasm of the adult optic lobe. It extends many cytoplasmic processes that enwrap fiber bundles at and near the sites of axonal intersection (Tix et al., 1997), but does not invade the neighboring synaptic neuropil (Kremer et al., 2017). There are around 50 of these per optic lobe and each envelops 8-12 fiber bundles, with multiple glial cells sharing each large strand of fibers (Kremer et al., 2017).[ FlyBase:FBrf0096428 FlyBase:FBrf0234767 FlyBase:FBrf0243899 ] |
