Definition Cell of the embryonic/larval midgut that expresses tachykinin (FBgn0037976). In the late third instar, tachykinin expressing cells in the midgut are located posteriorly, just anterior to the attachment of the Malpighian tubules and have a morphology consistent with an endocrine role.[ FlyBase:FBrf0130087 ]

Comment Siviter et al., 2000, observed tachykinin expressing cells in the midgut at embryonic stage 17 and in late third instar larvae using an antibody raised against locust tachykinin.
