| Term |
octopaminergic VUMd2 neuron |
ID (Ontology) |
FBbt:00110162 (Fly Anatomy) |
| Definition |
Octopaminergic neuron of the VUMd cluster that exhibits a fan-shaped projection in the brain (Busch et al., 2009). Secondary neurites that originate in area surrounding the ventral esophagus foramen project to the lateral inferior posterior slope where they turn ventrally and project via the cervical connective to the ventral nerve cord (Busch et al., 2009). Projections to the posterior subesophageal ganglion and the inferior posterior slope form varicose terminals (Busch et al., 2009). It is inhibited in response to infection, and this leads to reduced egg laying in females (Masuzzo et al., 2019).[ FlyBase:FBrf0207458 FlyBase:FBrf0243879 ] |
| Also Known As |
"OA-VUMd2" ; "pLB1+/Tdc2+ VM III neuron" |
| Comment |
The neurotransmitter was assessed by immunostaining with an anti-octopamine (OA) antibody in cells labelled with tdc2-GAL4 (FBti0101786) and NP7088-GAL4 (FBti0037217) (Busch et al., 2009). Despite egg-laying function in females, it is present in both males and females (Masuzzo et al., 2019). DNge149 and DNge152 mapped to OA-VUMd2 (Bates et al., 2025). |
